Critical Golf: Unbiased Golf Equipment Reviews

SkyCaddie SGXw

We’ve spent time with the device on the course, and our detailed review is in progress – stay tuned!

SkyCaddie builds upon the SGX with the addition of Wi-Fi capabilities in the new SkyCaddie SGXw. This should mean more easily updating your SkyCaddie course maps and syncing scoring information with your Wi-Fi at home, compatible hotspots, and certain smartphones with qualified data plans.

Enhancements beyond the original SkyCaddie SGX include:

  • “Dynamic RangeVue”: provides preset yardage arcs from the player position, allowing players to select the appropriate club more quickly
  • PinPoint Technology with IntelliGreen: allow players to add pin positions (we aren’t sure how this differs to what is provided with the current SkyCaddie SGX – will let you know as soon as we test

In addition, some sites have speculated that the SkyCaddie SGXw will be available with a faster processor and GPU (graphics processing unit)…stay tuned to see what differences we see between the new SkyCaddie SGXw and the original SGX.

I heard you need a wifi spot with no password protection. How is that helpful?

I assume you can still down load courses with the USB cable and your laptop.

The SGXW will connect to a password protected Wi-Fi network as long as there is no browser based authentication needed. Meaning you have to go to a web page to enter a password, like certain hotel that requires you to enter room information to connect. I have a secure network at home and connected with no problem. Once the network was found and I selected connect to network and a keyboard popped up allowing me to enter my security password and I was good to go.
